The Effects Of Sleep Deprivation On Your Immune System
College students and individuals across the country are suffering from a health problem that can be more detrimental to their health than some forms of cancer. What is it? Lack of sleep. Lack of sleep can harm your everyday life. You may not think that it is a big deal to lose a few hours of sleep instead of getting the recommended eight hours. When in fact you could be harming yourself or somebody that is around you. Technology keeps us from getting the sleep that we need to stay healthy. According to Timothy Morgenthaler, M.D. from the Mayo clinic ââ¬Å"a lack of sleep can affect your immune system. Studies show that people who don t get quality sleep or enough sleep are more likely to get sick and much slower to recover. During sleep, your immune system releases proteins called cytokines. Sleep deprivation may decrease production of these infection-fighting proteins. Long-term lack of sleep also increases your risk of obesity, diabetes, and heart and blood vessel (cardiovascular) disease.â⬠There are a lot of things that probably keep us from sleeping at night.
